please help, bf is the only time I get to relax and we've only just learnt how to do it lying down after so many problems for months

I've searched online but can find hardly any pictures of milk blisters, so i'm not sure if that's what I have or it's just painful because I've been putting my baby to the breast too often when the milk has run out

does anyone know where there are any picture and any other ways to work out what's causing the pain

i'm not sure if the white dots are just where the nipple has had to harden up cos of bf

sometimes she'll only stop crying if I bf, really don't want to loose it :-( :-(

I had this the weekend before last. I am ebf Ds was 5mo and not weaned and I didnt want to stop ebf but didn't think I could take the pain. I have had mastitis twice, but found the milk blister pain worse. Like you I googled it and image searches told me it was a milk blister aka a blep (id never heard of this or had it with previous ds). Online forums said things such as getting a dr to burst it. It was the weekend so I read on. I found a site that said have a hot bath and then feed through the pain as baby might release the blocked milk. It worked for me on the 2nd feed. I cried but the pain was relieved. It stung a bit for 2 days after but nothing like the blister. Google "blep" thats the term apparently. Who knew! Flowers

I think I had this when DD was younger and I fed through the pain. Hope you feel better soon x

White dot on nipple = milk blister aka "bleb". Hot bath, massage, gentle rub a hot, wet sponge on the nipple in the bath. Lots of feeding and it should clear.

Failing that you can try to burst it but you do risk it rehealing over if you do it wrong.

I think it might be called a 'bleb' rather than a blep- just had to google it myself after discovering I have a rather sore boob...

Is the pain just at the nipple? Does it feel like milk is backing up behind it? Sounds like a bleb. Put some olive oil on cotton wool and leave it in your bra for a few hours, it might soften it enough to give way. I called national bf helpline when I had one and they were really helpful so give them a go.

Kellymom has a good section re milk blister.

I've had them twice. After children birth and broken ribs, it ranks the third most painful thing that has happened to me!
