Oh god I remember the pain.

It was a long time ago and I know they don't recommend them now but nipple shields were a life saver and got me through. That and if I remember rightly rubbing a little milk into them and air drying after each feed to toughen them a bit.

You poor thing, it bloody hurts but it does pass. How old is baby? There's no chance of it being thrush is there?

Can you go and get a one to one consultation to look at baby's latch? I was lucky enough to find this service at a local children's centre and it SAVED me. I would have given up BF otherwise.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen are your friends. With lansinoh that was the only way I got through the first three weeks with DD1,and they're helping now with DD2 too.

She's 8 weeks now. Her latch has never been great tbh it's always been sore but it's inside the breast that was sore my nipples have been fine up until now. I've been referred to a clinic but I'm still waiting to hear back.

Already been looked at for thrush and a sample of my milk was sent away to text for thrush/infection as well because of the pain.

Oh ffs full of typos tonight Blush clearly my boobs are tender . My books are fine Grin

I blame the pain Sad my whole body is aching because I'm so tense while I'm feeding..

And I'm really down tonight it's quite emotionally draining having pain like this constantly isn't it?

I symphasise as I had really painful boobs with both of mine - the "let down" (I think that's what it's called) was toe curling! I used to have to bite down on a muslin at the beginning of every feed. It does get better though!

Do get latch checked but in the meanwhile, make up a batch of peppermint tea, put in a bottle and keep in the fridge. Then when needed, soak a couple of cotton wool balls in the tea and put in your bra! nest thing that worked for me!

I remember my heart sinking everytime she rooted or woke for a feed. They damage easily but they also heal quickly. It does get better. I promise.

I feel your pain. I never knew what 'toe-Curling pain' actually meant until I was feeding DS.

This earthmamma angel baby product was what saved my nipples.

Thanks for the tips . I will definitely be getting the latch checked out hopefully hear back from the clinic soon.

But I do need to do something in the meantime this is unbearable. By 8 weeks I really thought I'd be sorted Sad

I completely sympathise, my now four month old had a terrible latch to start with and I was crying my way through the first three weeks of feeds.
Be assured though, if thrush, bad latch and tongue tie have been ruled out then it might just be your nipples toughening up and it WILL get better. In the meantime get yourself some of these, put them in the fridge and in your bra. They are cold compresses and they were a life saver. Take some nurofen half an hour before a feed aswell to take the edge off.
I hope you feel better soon, I used to dread feeding time and I felt very low for those weeks, but I am able to feed without any pain now and it's even enjoyable!

Bless you. I've found motherlove nipple cream to be much better than that lashinosh cream. Also, I started pumping with a rented machine and supplementing with formula. I'm doing what I can and will switch to formula at the end of the month (DD will be 2 weeks on Monday). For me, life is too short for this misery to continue.
