Mix fed baby has cold now only wants breastmilk

Is this normal? He is 5 months and really stuffed up and snotty. I don;t make much milk and usually only feed him at night or to calm him when upset so now he is rejecting bottle he is going to be quite hungry 9I know breasts meant to respond to demand but mine never ever have for various reasons hence the mix feeding).

2 reasons:

1: comfort, a warm, snuggly boob offers far more comfort than being bottle fed.

2: antibodies. He knows your milk is medicine.

Keep offering the bottle but don't panic too much if he doesn't take it, just offer the boob too. If he's desperately hungry he'll take that bottle.

Hey my baby is the same when she's poorly - my health visitor advised me to express every 2 hours on each boob for 15 mins to get my milk supply up. I've hired a medula double pump they're great and any excess milk I freeze for her. Her cold has gone and she's back to alternate booby and bottle now but I'm keeping up with the expressing and it's working well - maybe give that a go? X

Agree with juno

Just go with it. DS knows what he wants and it's his mummy.
Don't worry. If he needs more (formula ) then he'll show you.
He might feed more often but that could help your supply, offer a bottle too and gradually he'll get back to his usual pattern.

Thanks. Third child - supply always been awful even with round the clock pumping with number 1. I think he is just so bunged up hard to breathe and eat at same time. But had half a bottle and a breastfeed just now so hopefully will see him through a bit of the night.

Hey - I've also used a product called Mr Sniffles nose drops - they're really good.

I've also had the opposite problem now my dd is nearly 6 months old - she's easily distracted so breastfeeding can sometimes be hard work. She's fine at home where it's quiet and no distractions but it's becoming increasingly difficult - she's going in fits and starts between bottle and breast.
