What age can you give baby a sippy cup?

Hi all, my EBF DD won't take a bottle, we have been trying since she was 2 weeks old, she's now 12 weeks. We've tried everything - 8 different bottles, changing temperature, me feeding her, him feeding her, different room, formula (which I hated the thought of), my milk, grandma feeding her, nothing will work. I would love for DH to be able to help out a bit more and the lack of sleep and time to myself is really getting me down plus he really wants to be more involved.

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with a sippy cup at such a young age??

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Get a doidy cup. Mine used one from about 3-4 months, can't remember exactly. It's an open cup but slanted so you can see what's going in

Thanks I have read about them so will try it, is it not a bit messy with such a little baby though?!

The problem is with any cup they won't take a huge amount, probably just sips rather than a full feed.

Have you tried a Nuk bottle? For all mine and other people I know who bf, this was the only one which worked, the teat is shaped. I bought at least 4 others prior to this which were all rejected.

Well you hold it and help tip and they sip so isn't really messy.

Yes I've tried the nuk bottle, she didn't like it, she's a stubborn little thing!

Have you tried her in the pram or car seat? My ds is still usually a bottle refuser at 9m but he would have a couple of oz in either of those sometimes think it was the being held the same way he isn't keen on. He now has a straw cup for water but still won't drink any milk from it

We used a free flowing sippy cup (from ikea) from 5 months. A bit messy at first but neither DC took bottles and I tried many brands!

I agree with AndAPartridge that even if she accepts a cup she won't be able to get a whole feed from it at this age. I think you have to carry on trying with the bottle. Have you tried going out for a couple of hours and leaving her with DH so she has no other option? Sorry, sounds a bit harsh but it worked for DD Blush

The HV suggested using a tommee tippee free flow cup as DD2 won't take a bottle and I go back to work in 3 wks, she will be 5.5m.
She isn't bothered with it that much with milk in it but she will take some water!

Now we are weaning (early with HV guidance) she is thirsty after food so will take 3oz or so but obviously this isn't an option at 12 wks.

We got our bottle refused to drink from a tommee tippee cup around 5mo. They need to be able to sit up first I think.

Any age. We had to use a tiny open cup for newborn dc1 for expressed milk, he had some problems that meant he couldn't feed either from me or a bottle for the first few weeks. The cup was fine if very very slow.
