Gp prescribed for reflux yesterday and prescription just read three times a day so not sure if to give before or after feeds? Also only enough for a week but review appt in two weeks - does a week do the trick? How long does it take to work? Desperate to help poor thing he's so miserable!!!!

Call GP and ask, nervous - it's fine to call and say you forgot to clarify. People here can't give you advice on meds, really, as your own situation might be different. Or ask the pharmacist.

It worked pretty quickly here, maybe within a week but only once we got to the maximum dose. I've read various things about when to give it but most say give it on an empty stomach and 30 mins before a feed, however this was near impossible with a young baby feeding on demand! I asked the gp and the pharmacist and neither would commit to a definitive answer, hence why I did my own research. The dose has to be adjusted regularly with any weight gain and once a bottle is open it must be binned after a month or it loses its effectiveness. It's been great for my DS, he's been on it 14m now smile

Empty stomach, 20 mins before a feed smile, worked pretty much straight away for us

Thanks all - have left message at goading for advice on dose but not optimistic as gp fab but admin staff law unto themselves!!! Using a syringe but he still manages to spit lots out - any tips on keeping it down? Loathe to tip his head as tried that with gripe water and poor chap nearly choked sad

Update - gp finally called back and your kind advice is right, meds before feed and put us on repeat prescription. Phew. Administering with dropper now not syringe and much less spat back - thank you all so much!!!
