Hi ladies,
After croup followed by bronchiolitis my little lad has had almost constant dioreah. Someone mentioned he could have temporary cows milk intolerance following illness, so I decided to try SMA why soya and overnight the runny nappies have stopped. He's pooped twice today but they are soft properly formed poo, and his nappies are much wetter. Does this sound like cows milk intolerance? Xx

I don't think we can give you a diagnosis over the Internet, but changing formula milk can upset a child's digestion.

With cows milk protein intolerance a lot of children who have it are also allergic to soya. We are told not to recommend soya formula to a baby with cows milk intolerance. Perhaps you could see your GP or HV and see what they say?

Yes, I'm seeing them tomorrow- I just wanted to go to them with a bit more info. I don't think it can be a coincidence that the runny nappies have suddenly stopped. I bought it from morrisons so I didn't think it was too sinister... I'm a bit worried now xx

It's not cows milk intolerance babies can sometimes get after illness, it's lactose intolerance, but it should be properly diagnosed. It may be your ds did develop lactose intolerance ( temporarily) but soya formula is not necessarily the best option. A short period on soya formula is not likely to be harmful so no need to worry - it's good you are seeing the doctor about it.
Do a google search for risks of soya formula and you will be better informed.

Hope things go well.
