how to tell the difference between reflux and normal possiting

Hello all

have a beautiful 3 week old EBF baby. She has been feeding really well and is putting on weight as expected. In the last few days she seems to have been struggling with trapped wind. It has been taking at times over an hour to wind her, and she has been clearly uncomfortable.
Also she has started bringing up larger volumes of her feeds, sometimes immediately sometimes again up to an hour after feeding. Sometimes she seems distressed by the vomitting, and it comes out quite forcefully.

so how can we tell the difference between the normal possiting after a feed and potentially something more problematic like reflux?

Much obliged.

I'm not sure Belleende but didn't want you to go unanswered. Is there a Bfing group you could go to to discuss it or could you ring one of the Bfing Helplines?

Congratulations btw thanks

The hour after a feed sounds more refluxy to me rather than the overspill of posseting.

Thanks both. I called the nct breast feeding line. Worse than useless. Lady on the phone spoke so quietly she was barely audible, and couild offer no sensible advice or opinion. I am going to pop into the breast feeding clinic on Thursday. I am thinking more likely to be reflux as some of the vomit is quite cottage cheesy whcih suggests it may have been in the stomach and then come out. She seems happy enough and as long as she is still gaining weight I don't think I will be too concerned.

She might need something like ranitidine to neutralise the acid that's making her uncomfortable. There are lots of reflux threads on here with tips about keeping them upright, sleeping wedges etc.
