Sorry to post here, please feel free to remove if not allowed but I felt it important that parents be aware if they go to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and go in the Safari cafe, they will refuse to provide you with hot water in order to make up your babies bottle or to warm up the bottle. This happened to me today - considering the heat and the fact that the cafe is after you leave the paid section of the park it was a little bit of an issue and I nearly ended up being unable to feed my daughter. They even refused to sell me a tea with the teabag on the side as it was clear I was planning to use it to make a bottle, a bit disgusting considering its located at a children's attraction, you think it would be a little more baby friendly!! Just wanted to try and make sure all mum's and dad's are aware so they do not get caught out in the same way, in this heat dehydration could have been a serious issue!!

Will they heat up a bottle behind the counter?

I've been in cafe's where they refused to give me a jug of hot water to warm up a bottle because they were concerned about scalding accidents, but where they would warm the bottle up behind the counter instead.

Couldn't you have warmed the bottle in the water with the teabag in?

I think this is fairly standard - well, judging by previous threads. A safety thing in part.

Not sure why several threads are required for the same post.

It is very commonplace in many cafes regardless of where they are to not serve a cup/jug of boiling water. It is just how some places interpret *S guidelines I guess.

Anyway, its been like this in some places for years. My dd is 13y and I remember some places refusing hot water even back then. I used to take out a flask of water or use ready made cartons instead.

If you don't think its important that is your opinion, just wanting other mums to be aware so they don't find themselves unable to give their child a drink of their milk on a boiling hot day... If that's not really important to you then that's an interesting parenting approach but you're entitled to it!

I wasn't sure which board to put it in. Did not realise they were all linked

The thing is most parents are already aware of this, accept it and make sure they are prepared so they don't have to try and force a private establishment to provide something they are not comfortable with. Nothing to do with other posters parenting approach at all.

Most others have found this out without getting outraged and asking others to boycott.

Would they have warmed it behind the counter if it was a concern over scalding?

Or was it that you only had the powder with you and needed to make it up from scratch?

I always took the ready made milk out and about.

If that's not an option, is it safe to make it up at home, cool it and then heat it later?

Och I'm sure the baby could have had cold milk if the situation was desperate OP. Maybe you should get a couple of these threads deleted if you're not too busy posting the same thing everywhere else you can think of. There are many more worthy issues to climb on ones tall horse about.

Evening all,

We've had a few reports from people who felt it was unfair for this tourist attraction to be singled out in this way.

The original thread title was rather alarming (we were expecting an escaped lion, at the very least!) so we've edited it to remove the name of the venue from the title.

How old is your baby? Is s/he old enough to have water and solid food yet?

What is your aim with the threads and comments on other social media?

I really can't see why it's bothered you enough to have three threads going.

Report

Is everybody supposed to answer all three threads? Bring your own water, many places don't provide it.

I used to take a flask of hot water out with me to make up feeds. I think when making milk from powder you must be sure it's not been reboiled, and also that it was boiled less than 30 mins ago. If tea is made from an urn their water might not be suitable. I can see why they would be reluctant to give out a jug of boiling water, and also to heat up milk for you, in case of litigation. Maybe they've been burnt by this before (sorry).

I think it's nice when a cafe will help with feeds, but I wouldn't rely on it with no alternative. Sorry to sound harsh but if you really feel your dc was at risk of dehydration, I think you need to make sure you plan differently next time you go out. What if your car had broken down on the way and you'd needed to get your dc some milk with no cafés etc around?

Take ready mixed bottle and teach your kid to drink at room temp or use shop bought ready mixed milk and teach your kid to drink room temp.

I'm baffled at not being able to give a drink. It doesn't have to be warmed up.

I think everyone's being a bit unfair. I always thought venues would provide hot water, so this thread has been useful to me so that I know now that, if I'm out and about, to bring my own water, or pretend that I'll drink the cup of tea!
