I've had blocked ducts before (this is DC2, 6mths) & always managed to get rid of them without antibiotics, mostly because I could feel where they were so it was sorted with lots of feeding on that side and very hot showers massaging the lump(s).

This time I can't find a blocked duct, the pain seems to be under my areola. There's no swelling, but there is redness. Feeding doesn't seem to be helping & my DS is a quick feeder so isn't obliging by feeding longer or more frequently. Breast feels bruised & very, very uncomfortable but have only a slight temperature, 37.7. I am exhausted but don't think anymore so than the last couple of days & mild headache.
I know you're not medical professionals (most at least!) but in your experience, should I wait?

I would try to get to OOH today if you can. The longer you leave it without antibiotics, the worse it is likely to get. Flowers I feel for you. Mastitis is horrible.

Could be the start of a breast abcess. Sooner you get antibiotics the better if so. Once the abcess is formed oral antibiotics just don't do it, you end up having to have them intravenously.

Thanks to you both Flowers

Not in UK but waiting for a call back from them now. Feeling pretty rough, but generally exhausted these days anyway with the 2 kids so it was hard to tell at first!

Mastitis is utterly horrendous, do not wait if you suspect it. I couldn't get to the docs fast enough...

Just a reminder that you can get inflammatory or infective mastitis and you therefore don't necessarily need antibiotics. Obviously I don't know which you have though. I tend to find some aggressive (manual) expressing can unblock ducts better than just feeding Confused
