Infant feeding

9 month old being very boob clingy

My pfb DS is just about 9 months and doing very well with baby led weaning. In fact, he had dropped all but two breastfeeds, one in the morning and one before bed.

However, when he is on the boob he just doesn't want to come off, yesterday we had a mammoth 1.5 hours at bedtime with both boobs completely drained. He has also picked up a breastfeed in the afternoon again, this is fine but again, he doesn't want to stop!

He is getting three meals a day plus snacks and about 600-800 ml of water from his sippy cup. As a guide he generally eats more solid food than my goddaughter who is seven months older than him and completely weaned.

He doesn't seem to want more actual food at meal and snack times but I don't think the clinginess is just for comfort either as he is really going for it.

I want to keep breastfeeding to a year so this isn't a major issue at the moment but I am not sure how we are ever going to get there! Plus my nipples are getting a good chew with his 6 teeth from time to time so I'm keen to make sure he feeds nicely and only when he needs it.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do?!

I am experiencing it now OP. I put it down to the 8-10 month developmental leap. Bedtime feed is now taking 60-90 minutes every evening and DD2 is feeding far more frequently overnight.

Oh I really hope so, he's wanting a night feed again now too after sleeping through for ages! Let's hope this phase passes quickly...
