Woman on Rikki Lake told she should cover herself with blanket while breastfeeding

Just watched Rikki Lake and there was a woman who had been brought on it because she was 'dissrespecting' her friend and the friends boyfriend by bf infront of the boyfriend . He had admitted to fancying her and the friend was saying that the woman who was bf, was doing it to flirt with the guy.
No one on the show said that she was within her rights to be bf her child. The bf mother said that she was just feeding her child when she needed it but most of the people ( the friend , Rikki, audience) were saying that she should go upstairs to feed the baby or cover herself with a blanket!

They were all saying that she was wrong to feed in front of him and that he felt violated by it. I couldn't believe it. He plainly fancied her too.

I have fed in front of loads of my friends husbands etc. I am discreet but even if her breast had popped out I think they were missing the point that she was doing a great thing to be bf her dd. What do you think? These sort of things on the telly don't help with positive attitudes to bf do they?

princess - have you seen the thread called Bottle Feeding which has some links (collected by moi) to websites selling ridiculous cover-ups?

No, I'll look for it though.

Not that I intend to buy any.

Americans I've discovered are very prudish about bf. And it is very difficult to bf in public over here. Certainly a friend of mine covers her and baby with a blanket when feeding. So guess it's the normal thing in public. In your own home nope I think it's outrageous, but if it's in someone else's home and they have the typical attitude towards it well that's a tricky one. I agree though it's not giving a positive attitude towards bf. But it is an American show. Funnily enough all my friends here are either bf'ing currently or bf'd they children. So not too detrimental an effect

was bfding dd3 yesterday in cafe with my parents - and mum said ' oh cover up!' cover up what I said, you can't see anything....
jsut makes it more obvious that you are bfding , most people would be unaware unless they are bfders themselves! I usually ahve a burping cloth for dd3 for any spitting up and mum always tries to cover the baby and me when I am out and about and have to feed. I though it was a generatiopn thing, but maybe not.

I agree with hana and I wonder does anyone actually flash their boobs about in public anyway?! I've had friends who haven't worried about being discreet at my house or whatever and that is fine, but I don't know anybody who flashes in public. I remember one old gentleman coming up to me once thinking I was jsut cuddling the baby, when he realised I was feeding he said something about how nice it was that baby was feeding. It really does look like cuddling unless really close up.

They are ridiculous tiktok!!

I used to cover my tummy while feeding dd when she was first born as I was embarrased about the stretch marks on my tummy, but never put anything over her head like those silly tent things.
