(as opposed to the 'bad biting' thread which I read with huge sympathy - but danceswithbaby, don't worry about shouting at her. you couldn't have done a better thing. She's got to learn.)

Now that my dd (7 mths) has two bottom teeth her sucking is more painful and sore... any clever suggestions? will my nipples grow used to the presence of teeth? trying to get her to allow more of the areola into her mouth so as to keep the nipple safe, which isnt' that easy. but any good tips on quick cures for bruising? she has bitten occasionally but not badly - no blood = which is perhaps why they are sorer

Pushkin - it does sound as though dd's not opening her mouth wide enough and you do need to get more breast into it, as you have said. Are you positioning her nose-to-nipple before she latches on, so that she has to stretch open to reach it? What you really need is some face-to-face help from an expert. Counsellors are available from NCT, La Leche League, the Breastfeeding Network and Association of Breastfeeding Mothers. Even just another mother who has breastfed a 7 month old, could probably help. Good luck.
