Infant feeding

I hardly dare to post this... but it said in the paper today that breastfed babies...

are more likely to grow into happy adults.

It made me feel happy because I have a very poorly ds who has lots of health problems and I thought to myself "At least he is breastfeeding and I so hope it will help him in some way as he grows up."

And that's the spirit that this is intended in, so please don't jump on me!

my dd is breastfed and she is very content and happy, always laughing and smiling.

Correlation does not show cause and effect.

But I'm sure your ds will grow up happy with a caring mum.

Tee hee.

I read this and immediately thought of MN.

And that's my final word on the subject.

Wellwhen I was dealing with heart failure someone must have been slipping mine the boob when I wasn't looking.

He was formula fed (medical condition and tablets for me) and is a happy confident balanced child.

Now who could it have been....??

LGJ wanders off to ponder this conundrum.........

emkana..if it makes you feel good and that you are doing something positive for your little one...go for it...agree with HUB..having a lovely, caring mum will make a difference too....

I was bottle fed, so I guess that explains why I am a miserable cow!!

Hehehe... dd1 did her first PROPER big contented smile after a bottle of formula. Up until then she cried all day.

I was b/f and my dh f/f and i can honestly say that while I'm very happy dh has grown up to be a far more optimistic person than me

On what basis is this evidence founded?

Hub Hub Hub - all this talk of correlation takes me back....
Too many variables far too many

It didn't say that it made for happier babies, just happier adults.

DS1 was a miserable sod too - and he was bf too. Pretty happy now though, but no more so than he brother who wasn't BF.

I wonder if duration of bf is correlated with ever-increasing amounts of rapture as an adult ?

ie. extended bf till 7 and your kid is just delirious, all day long ?

(Anyway I think emkana is saying adults not babies and it is a correlation sort of thing)

Light bulb moment,no one BF whilst I wasn't looking it is yet another load of nonsense.

Emkana I am delighted that you get some comfort from it, but really there are women on here who will just get upset, as indeed, I used to.

I bet you could prove that breastfeeding correlates to a lot of things if you put your mind to it.

Emkana I am behind.. what are DS's health problems? I followed your pregnancy threads but thought that he didn't have the condition it was feared he would have before birth?

i think emakana posted this as an illustration of something making her feel good..not for the puirpose of making anyone else feel bad..why should she not post it > a lot of people post a lot of things on here that are upsetting to others....but emkana not posted to be smug or malicious...i've issues about not breastfeeding....but not going to air them here.....

Report
harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 01/11/2006 20:08

hmm, seriously, does anyone have a link to this or shall we just all post our own experiences of a sample size of one or two and draw our own conclusions from that?
because clearly that is miles more conclusive than any kind of proper scientific survey
if this is a proper scientific survey

WHICH WE DON'T KNOW YET

link

Ds has lots of chest problems, constant infections.

He also has short limbs and delayed motor development.

We will have to see what the future holds. Precisely which condition he has is still not clear, he might even have what they said prenatally.
