Breastfed baby, diarrhoea?

Apologies if this is tmi.

My 12 week old ds has been exclusively breast fed since birth and usually poos a few times a days. Since the weekend he's had a slight cough and his poo habits have changed. He had an extremely loose nappy on Saturday then once again Sunday. This week he's only done tiny poos and I've been preparing myself for him to explode and sure enough he's just done a big poo but again it's very loose and watery.

Apart from the slight cough, he's fine in himself. No high temperature and is feeding well. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. My diet hasn't changed.

Should I be concerned at all?

I've a 6 week old and was at GP this week for check up & asked a virtually identical question. Actually meant to ask here about it too.

DS has slight cold but GP said BF fed babies poos vary in consistency so much depending on a whole range of factors from mothers diet to teething etc that they only worry if there are other symptoms as well. He did listen to his chest though to rule out a bigger problem with the cough, when they're so small it might be worth ringing GP to check if you should bring him in?

I wouldn't be too worried - afaik it only really counts as diarrhoea if it is dirty water, with no real structure at all. It may well turn out to be related to the cough, and should settle down as that does.

Probably fine. I remember worrying about poo all the time. If he has a little cough you could get him checked for peace of mind as suggested. However if seems fine and feeding well, with no temp, is probably fine!

Thank you for your replies. He has his second set of immunisations today so I'll ask then too.

Mine always has big loose poos after immunisation.
I saw my GP who said unless it's very frequent (more than 1 per feed!) Vile/slimy it's within the realms of normal.

My ebf baby poos once a day but it's always been yellow/mustard and very "wet " - several hcp and bf counsellors said that's ok.
