Just looking for support really. My dd2 is 10 days old and was four weeks early. Had issues with sucking and had to be tube fed for a few days a sugar levels dropped. That got sorted then she got jundice (sic) and had to go on a billi bed. We got discharged from hospital on friday as her blood results were a lot better.
Fast forward to now and her weight is dropping and mw and hv said to express after every feed and top up using syringe. Has anyone else been through this im in tears and its really hard. Breastfeeding is going ok. Was using sheilds but trying without now and shes latching on well.

I had lots of problems feeding, it took LO 8 weeks to regain his birth weight.

It sounds like you're doing really well, especially if breast feeding is going well/getting better.

Hang on in there - it will get easier. And you're doing a great job.

Brilliant job getting rid of the shields - we didn't manage that for 6 months! You're doing great. The idea is just to try and make sure she's getting plenty of the higher calorie 'hindmilk' rather than being tired out by getting the more watery foremilk and then missing out. Have they shown you how to hand-express comfortably? Or discussed expressing off a little foremilk before latching her on to increase your supply a little and help her get to the hindmilk stage that bit quicker?

Thanks curtains and shoestring. Im doing some skin to skin and expressed 10mls twice. Have been taught hand expressing too. Had to use sheild again just now as she wouldnt latch but going to try each time without first.
Mw said to do skin to skin tonight and tomorrow. Dont really know how im going to do it tomorrow as ment to be at mils!
