Hoping those with experience can help. I'm somewhat confused over contradictory weaning advice. Weaned my twins at 5 1/2 months on advice from paediatrician (babies small, went through feed refusal for a few weeks, silent reflux diagnosed and meds given which helped significantly).
Was told minimum formula amounts around 800ml per day for each baby; has been a bit of a struggle to get them to feed this much, but most days they take that amount.
Weaning is going well - two meals a day, lunch of varied home-made veg or fruit purées, yoghurt and fruit, porridge for breakfast. They're now 6 1/2 months. Some finger food - offered daily at least twice, they're not brillaint at keeping hold of it!
Have been trying to keep milk intake high, so have offered milk before solids routinely. They often take a bit more milk during a meal too. Still taking about 800ml per day.
Saw HV yesterday who sort of told me off for not offering 3 meals a day. I explained it's quite hard work to a) time this due to milk feeds and b) actually feed them both solids as they're fantastically distractable at the moment. She said it's now got to be all about the solids, and that I don't need to get so much milk into them. She's not our usual HV but I did explain back-story. I felt somewhat chastised, which isn't really the point, but I want to know which should be the priority, milk or solids? Until now I was under the impression that milk was the main thing.
Obviously I want to work towards three meals a day, and will clearly work out the logistics and timings of this, but do I need to rush to three a day? And at the expense of milk?
Babies are 13lb10 and 12lb12. Both put on ten ounces in last week which another HV at the clinic said was good.
Would be very grateful for any pointers.
