Expressing - is dishwasher ok to sterilise gear?

Just that really. Am only occasionally expressing a bottle, DD is nearly 8 weeks. Am washing the pump (Avent manual) and bottle in top drawer of dishwasher - is that sufficient or do I need to keep running it through steriliser too?

I know when we were sterilising DS' bottles it was because of formula residue in teat etc. are there the same concerns with breastmilk?

Breastmilk that hasn't been frozen is naturally anti-bacterial so my MW told me I didn't need to sterilise, just wash thoroughly and air dry.

When I was a beast milk donor I was always told not to do sterilising. Just hand wash in hot soapy water. I'm sure dishwasher would be ok if you have it on a nice hot setting.

Yeah if you use the hot wash. If I use the quick run I sterilise in my steam steriliser.

I think DW is preferable to just sterilising because at least DW cleans things first. I went to a lecture once and they said they have to reject lots of breast milk because there's poo in it. Where people sterilise things but don't wash it (I'm assuming it's baby poo from their hands).

Shock poo!!!! Bloody hell.

Thanks, I thought dishwasher would be ok. I usually run it on 65 or 70.

Only handy thing about the steriliser is that it fits everything in perfectly and can leave it closed after a steriliser run.

Doesn't your dishwasher make everything plastic taste horrible? Ours does - have read the same on other threads - we have now gone back to handwashing all plastics especially those for feeding the baby. Interested to know if anyone has a solution!

Is it the brand of detergent Fratercula? We use Lidl all in one tabs, always have, never noticed a funny taste?

Dishwasher is perfect because it gets it clean and kills the bugs.
