Any recommendations on good brands for electric pumps? Looking for a double on good quality but a bit overwhelmed by all the advice.

Medela I think they are called. They are excellent and you can hire them. I hired mine because I had to spend the first week stuck in hospital with my DS and I used their excellent medela pumps many times a day in the breast pump room they had. I many a conversation with other mums in the same room. We were all delirious with tiredness chatting away whilst pumping our breasts. All very surreal. I hired mine for 3 months. Call your local hospital for details.

The one I had was blue and this was around 9 years ago. No idea what they are like now however.

I have an Ameda Lactaline (double). DS was born 8 weeks prem so I was pumping a lot at the beginning. Not quite as good as a hospital pump, but for me it came pretty close.

Ardo calypso is very good - and it's a closed system pump (unlike Medela) so it's much more hygienic and you can safely buy them second hand if you need to.

the NCT used to hire out electric breast pumps which would other wise costs hundreds to buy. Check it out.

I'm considering buying Ardi calypso. Have been using a hired Medela - how is it in comparison can anyone advise? Its a lot of money so want to be sure that its going to be good! I use the strongest suction on the Medela so would the Ardo be strong enough to match this?

I have a Medela Pump In Style. It's every bit as good as the huge blue Medela loaned to me by the midwives after DS1 was born. It has seen me through two babies and helped me clear seven bouts of mastitis and is still as brilliant as the day I got it. It runs just as well off batteries as it does off mains power. It's bloody expensive, but has been worth every penny for me.
