I've been back at work for 3 weeks. DS2 was EBF until 5 months then we started introducing formula in the day to prepare for me going back to work.
We have tried lots of different bottles/teats/sippy cups etc. as well as 3 brands of formula before finally finding a combination where DS2 will drink the milk. But he'll never drink more than 60ml at a time, usually less, and only 3 times a day.
I BF him around 7am, then he has formula and some pureed foods, then I BF again at 7pm. And lots in the night atm because he has a bad cold and wakes very frequently.
Between 7am and 7pm he hardly eats. In general he eats:
- 45ml of formula with baby rice + 15ml of formula
- 2 "ice" cubes of pureed vegetables + 30ml of formula
- 2 "ice" cubes of pureed fruit
- 1/2 adult-sized plain yoghurt
- Another 60ml of formula if he accepts it during the day.
So a total of max. 150ml of formula in 12 hours. And very little food.
He also sleeps a lot in the day - 4 naps, usually a total of 5 hours.
I'm worried he's trying to swop night and day, as I'm there in the night to BF him.
But I'm also reluctant to refuse to BF him in the night as he's barely eating in the day. Plus if he cries he wakes DS1 who is a terrible sleeper and doesn't need anymore reasons to wake up!
DS2's BF have never been long - usually only last 10 minutes. They're just frequent.
Any ideas? He has lots of wet and dirty nappies and is bright and cheerful. He just doesn't eat much in the day.
I did go to see our Dr about this but the Dr just said when he's hungry he'll eat. But he's not
