Infant feeding

well baby weigh in

I had to exclusively pump for the first 6 weeks due to tongue tie and inverted nipples.

We're now on the breast after lots of work and even more good luck.

I'm fairly certain his weight gain initially was inflated due to the bottle feeding and probably taking in more, faster than he would have on the breast.

he was consistently 75th percentile and dipped to 63rd last time weighed. I'm not concerned, I was waiting for this and feel that he's feeding fine.

I'm curious, however, how often people have their babies weighed? I don't want to be neurotic about it, bit also with our initial troubles feeding, I want to be aware.

When my EBF boy was younger I used to go every two weeks. Id say I did that for about the first 6 months. Almost more just as an excuse to get us out of the house & my curiosity more than anything. Now I go once a month, again more for my curiosity than anything. HTH.

Oh, he's 11 months now. I'll probably go around his birthday & then stop bothering.

First child fortnightly, second child once every 3 or 4 months...

I did every week for the first month or two! Mainly as pp said to get out the house though.
He's 4 months now and ebf and I go maybe once a month. He seems to have settled himself just between the 50th and 75th percentile.

I go every 2 weeks ATM. DS is ebf and was born on the 99.9th percentile, probably due to undiagnosed gestational diabetes. Unsurprisingly I haven't been able to keep him on that line. He has dropped to the 50th (which is where his head measurement is, so not too concerned). He's been tracking that for the last 2 weigh ins, and if he still is next week, I'm planning to move to monthly weigh ins.

Whew, cam you tell I've been thinking about this a lot?

Once a month for the first three months, then occasionally.

You're not supposed to weight them more than monthly unless there is a specific health concern anyway.

Ok, thanks! DS is 14 weeks and I've just been going every 4th week, so definitely not too often I don't think.

I'm a terrible mother!
I've never taken dd to be weighted. I didn't take ds now 6 either. They fed, pooed, wet their nappys, grew & seemed happy so I didnt think I needed to.
