He would like to know if a mumsnetter can tell him how many scoops do you get out of a standard 900g tin of formula? Thanks

Give him a can and a scoop and tell him to count

It'll keep him amused for a while. Especially if you start calling out random numbers whilst he's doing it.

or tell him to weigh one scoop and divide

he he!! Only problem with that Twiglett is that he doesn't want to open the tin in case it's not going to last iyswim.
We're going to do a top up bottle every night and it says on the tin that you can't have it opened for longer than 4 weeks so we're not sure if there is any point opening it or just buying a smaller tin, or using the small cartons. Any ideas?

I think it won't go off... we used to use a tin per week.

I think one bottle per night will mean it will last longer than 4 weeks - the big tins used to last ages when I mixed fed my twins.

How many scoops does it say to make up a bottle ? Does it say anywhere how big the scoop is ? Probably 25-30g I would guess (about an ounce) - so that would be 30-40 scoops in 900g.

A 900g tin used to last about 6 days when dd was having 5-6 7oz feeds a day. Not sure my mental maths is up to this!! So........42 scoops a day, over 6 days is 252 scoops. So roughly 250 scoops in a tin is about 1 8 oz bottle a night to use it up before the 4 weeks is up.

That's manageable, and cheaper than the cartons which are 7 oz anyway.

you can ring the help line and they will tell you (they told me when I was enquiring about whether I could get the brand abroad) but I can't remember what the answer was as it was a while ago !

I guess it depends on how much you're using - DS2 used to have 9oz several times a day - so didn't last long at all.

1 scoop is 4.6 grams (i think it is the same for all brands) 126 scoops.
