My ds is on C&G premium. He's 10 weeks old. The past couple of weeks I've noticed that he can become crippled with wind around 2 hrs after his feed. He looks so in pain the poor thing and I feel helpless - it is horrible . I give him infacol before each feed but I am not sure that is making any difference at all. His "bottom wind", when eventually Should I be changing formula? Any advice on how I can eleviate his suffering gratefully received....

Is he like this all day or only at certain times? You could change formula if you want. Sounds like you have nothing to lose by trying.

hi potty

my dd was like this when we moved from bf to ff at around 6mth we tried different teats, formula still had terrible wind and eventually dp suggested using pre sterilised bags (which we used to store ebm!) inside normal bottle as bag collapses when drunk there is much less air to cause wind - found this really helped - they can be bought at boots although little bit pricey - i have a huge supply so if you want to give it a try gimme me a shout and i can send you some to try!

When I tried DD on Formula she was exactly the same. Tried al sorts of formula and no luck until LF SMA but then I have lactose intolerance so was kinda expected. Other people swear by those doctor brown bottles (is that the right name?) with the staw thing in to let air in tje bottle. You have my complete sympathy. It's AWFUL to watch and know that you can do nothing to help. Found massaging DD's tummy clockwise helped move wind so she got it out at the other end so to speak but was only the change of formula that helped in the end.

Dd was like this and she was breastfed - I think some babies are just prone to it, so I don't know if the brand of formula would make a change.

I used to keep dd upright for as long as possible after a feed - she took ages to bring up her wind. sOmetimes she would end up sleeping upright.

One of dd's issues is that she's tongue tied, so her tongue is "tied" tightly to the bottom of her mouth. It can be a big problem for breastfed babies, but I would imagine that babies using a bottle would need to be able to cover as much of the teat as possible and have a good "seal" on the teat so extra air doesn't get it - just a theory - might be worth getting your GP to check (my HV hadn't heard of it) It can stretch over time by itself or might need a snip (doesn't hurt) by a GP.

Sounds bizarre - but also, I really cannot burp and I wonder if she's inherited my digestive system!!

Lying her down every so often seemed to speed it up. So she would lie down, cry, be picked up, burp then be carried for a bit. Infacol made a big difference, but only when we used it for every feed. If we missed a dose it really made a difference.

Agree with the tummy rubbing - there are special tummy massage oils which are meant to help relieve colicky/windy pains. I think Aromakids make them - it might be soothing for both of you!

When you hold your ds, have a v gentle squeeze just at the bottom of his ribcage, if it's quite firm, then he's still windy, if it's "squashy" then you could risk putting him down for a while.

Dd also had crossed eyes when she was windy too!

I'll see if I can find the rub oil stuff for you.

hth all the best

Pottie...we had the same problem and then we stopped using the Infacol and hey presto it was fine. I think Infacol helps whilst their stomachs adjust to the formula but what it does is make the bubbles bigger which results in massive bottom wind. When we stopped using it DS2 didn't then return to having trapped wind in his tummy so the Infacol saw us through that and then became the problem not the solution.

On the milk...I've been told that Aptimel is kinder on the tummy and for alergies but not sure if that's true.

Hey bobsmum, just realised that I couldn't burp until 2 years ago (now can't stop!) so maybe my dd has that problem too. Love the oil name! (my mum's called Chris!)
