Infant feeding

Lacklustre lefties!

Hello, can anyone help..?
I've been trying to boost my supply as dd isn't gaining weight very well and I generally feel quite 'empty' except for at about 1am when she's had a sleep. The other prob I'm having is that the left boob is never full or hard, I try to give dd that side first each time so her hardest sucks stimulate it, but still after a week or so it's not really performing. She also fusses and pulls off, bobbing about when it goes soft. It's like she doesn't like my nip when it's all softened after a few mins, and makes me feel like there's just not enough milk in there. Oddly I thought initially it was the other way round, I had a more 'full' feeling left side and at one point some lumpy bits which I managed to clear by massaging while dd fed. But then it never seemed to fill back up. Anyway, enough rambling, any tips on evening out/increasing supply? Dd is 3.5 weeks and I bf all day but give her one ff at bedtime.

The greater the demand, the more milk you will produce. How often does she feed? Try dropping formula and BF at bedtime. Maybe try pumping after feeds, but don't be surprised if you don't get much. Is DD having plenty of wet/dirty nappies?

Thanks rock show, I'm pumping after feeds, she does at least two pooey nappies and plenty of wet ones...
When I pump the right one spurts and the left one just drips!!

If she's doing plenty of wet and dirty nappies then she is probably getting enough. I also have a slower flow and lower supply on the left, but DD prefers feeding from that one as right is too fast! I believe it is normal to have different supply and flow in each breast, and each baby will have a preferred side.
When is your DD next being weighed?

Oh, ok! Normal I can live with! The fussing and squirming is annoying though and tough on the nips!
I'm trying to make sure she feeds at least every two hours in the day, doesn't go more than 3 in the day and 4 at night without.
Next weigh in this fri, worried!!!

Anyone any tips on fussing at boob after about ten minutes?! It's like she gets so that it's comfortable for me then writhes around with boob in her mouth as though she's trying to twist it off! Horrid. I switch sides but she normally does the same again.... Getting agonising for the nips

Sounds like she might be getting frustrated with the relatively slower flow as the feed progresses and is trying to stimulate another letdown? Have you tried doing breast compression at this point? Might help. Also it's always best to get real life help for breastfeeding; can you get to a support group at all? Most things are a phase which passes relatively quickly, but always good to get things checked by the experts.
