Infant feeding

cows milk vs formula for the odd feed?

As of next week 7.5 month old baby will be with my mum 2 days a week. At the moment I always breastfeed her when she wakes, once or rarely twice during the day, before bed and one or two times in the night.

I will express to give my mum milk to give baby, but if she runs out or uses it thinking baby is thirsty/hungry when she isn't or whatever and needs more- as a very rare thing- would whole cows milk or a ready carton of formula be better for baby?
If you say formula, is there any age before 12 months you would suggest cows (just for an emergency)?

Thanks

I would say ready made formula rather than cows milk at 7.5 months. I would be ok with cows milk from maybe 11 months ish.

Cows milk can be hard to digest and can be irritating to their digestive systems. Formula has been adapted not to be, so it would be more suitable at this age.

Formula before 1. The little ready made cartons are so convenient and it's not going to be very often so won't cost a lot (the only reason to consider cows milk instead?) just stock up on a crate of them and leave them at your mum's.

I would say formula rather than cows milk. From 10/11 months cows milk could be given occasionally.

For an emergency I'm sure cow's milk wouldn't do any harm as a one off, but keeping a few little bottles of ready made formula to hand would be better.
