Infant feeding

Feeling extremely cold after feeding

Recently I have been getting really cold - shivering, goosebumps etc despite adding jumpers and layers - in the evening and I think it's linked to breastfeeding. It seems to happen when DS (7weeks) cluster feeds or when I express lots. Anyone else have this?

Are you sore at all? Have you noticed any blocked ducts? Do you feel shivery in the sane way as when you have a temperature? Do you feel generally tired/ unwell? I hit very shivery when I first had mastitis so if you also feel unwell it might be worth investigating...

I have a similar problem ds is 11days old. I'm feeling shivery and cold, adding layers and still being cold yet sweating and being very hot. It's only when I cluster feed in the evening and at night and I've checked for lumps, soreness and feeling hot but there doesn't seem to be anything and during the day I'm fine Confused

I was actually coming on to see if anyone else had a similar problem!

Are you eating and drinking enough? You might be feeling faint by the evening if you are hungry/dehydrated. Tiredness probably doesn't help either!

Thanks ladies. Other than the coldness I feel fine (for a given value of tired new mum). I eat loads and drink as much as I can but will try and get more water down me and see of that helps. I have no lumps, my nipples can get sore after a feed but no excessively.

I've never heard of it as late as 7 weeks but I think it is quite common to have shivering in the first few days after your milk has come in. It happened with both my dcs. I had forgotten about it with dc2 and it scared the crap out of me again. Thought I had a womb infection or something!

I just turned into a 'cold person' after DD was born. I don't know why but I just really felt the cold having been a warm person until then.

It appears to have got worse since DS was born. Last night I was so cold I woke up IN MAY!

I sympathise OP.

Are you eating extra calories to fuel all the milk production? Could be low blood sugar or hunger pure and simple.

I've got the opposite problem - feeling hot/like I've been sunburnt in the evenings, and horrible night sweats. Bloody hormones!

Anaemic? That makes you feel cold.

Misty - how many days old is your baby? Please get checked for mastitis and womb infection!
