My DD was born 8wks prem. I have BF for the first 11 wks (EBM for 3 wks whilst she learnt to suckle) Sadly she isnt gaining weight so we think my milk isnt sufficient, heart broken Blush Sad. We have been prescribed high cal sma and have been using NUK Latex teats whilst weaning her off of the breast. Now she is off of the breast completely as of today please can people advise of their suggestions, staying on NUK bottles or sourcing an alternative brand i.e Tommee tippee or Avent etc?

TIA X

We liked tommee tippee- I read something, somewhere (how vague is that?!!), that you should look at the different teats, and just see which ones resemble your breast! So, I did that and tommee tippe was as similar as it got! That may be a huge bit of rubbish I just spouted though- so feel free to ignore my advice!

Is there no way that you can mix feed though? Seems such a shame if you are upset about stopping.

Thank you for your reply. Sadly we have tried breast milk fortifiyer for 2 weeks, nutri prem x2 a day and now a week of sma high cal x2 a day and none of it seems to be adding the weight sufficiently so it seems that the weak link is my milk.
I will have a look at the TT ones in the shop tomorrow and will ensure i compare without getting my boobs out Wink

:( kelly<br />
You have given your little one a lovely gift, and for 11 weeks. It's absolutely not easy to build up and maintain a breastmilk supply for a prem baby.

If you are absolutely certain you no longer want to give any breastmilk at all, you can still put your baby to the breast as often as you want to, for comfort and closeness, while maintaining the full amount of formula she needs.

If she is doing ok on the NUK bottles and teats, I am not sure why you would want to change to a different brand?

I think you can get NUK pretty easily on line.

Again thank you for your reply also.
I just wanted to be sure that I am offering her the best possible choice in teats as I made an error in original feeding choice and really want to help her weight gain but also ensuring that she is getting good support in her mouth for jaw development.
I really appreciate your advice and my DD and I have kangaroo care daily and we will continue rhis for as long as she will allow it
