Infant feeding

Biting- is there a solution?

DS is 16 weeks old, EBF. Over the the last couple of weeks has become veeeeery dribbly, shoving everything in his mouth, and biting whilst feeding.

It's so unbelievably painful!

He seems more prone to doing it when he is at the end of a feed and not really that into it anymore. Is there anything I can do? It's actually making me feel a bit scared of feeds!

Just marking my place! DS is 14 weeks and mix fed and bit me for the first time yesterday. And again today. Twice already. Proper little chow down on my nipple! It really bloody hurts. As with your DS it's at the end of a feed-I can't even do the little finger into his mouth thing as his little jaw is clamped shut. Never has a nipple been whipped out quicker than when he let go. Milk bar is closed for a bit! Hope someone who knows what they're doing comes along soon- at least before teeth!!aaaghh

Both my DCs had teeth by 17 weeks. I found that often the shriek that closely followed the bite help dissuade them Grin
The little finger in the mouth unclamping routine, holding DC away from nipple with a 'no', before resumption did seem to work quite quickly. I carried on bfing DD until she was 15 months and survived so it is possible to 'train' them. Good luck!

Oh have a biter!!! Some things that work for me.
A sachet of teething powder before a feedworkedmagic
Try to push them into the breast rather than drag nipple out of clenched gums (this is worse when teeth come in!!) Pulling them in makes them delatch.
A strong no and end the feed.
They learn and your nipps toughen up :)
8.5 months 8 teeth and still going. Get a little nip every now and then but she KNOWS this will end feed and usually just grins aHmm
