Quick poll: Neocate or Nutramigen AA?

DD has CMPA and lactose intolerance. She's been through a couple of hydrolysed formulas and reacted to both, so our remaining options are Neocate or Nutramigen AA.

I hear both taste foul, so I'm wondering what your experience has been and which your DC tolerated better.

Thank you Smile

I've heard aptamil pepti is the better taster. Is that an option?

My DD has been on Nutrimigen for the last few months.. It's made a massive difference to her temperament and changed our lives really Grin

I have never had the other one but I can vouch for that one!

Does stink to high heaven though! (And once my DH bet our friend 20 pounds he couldn't drink an ounce of it Blush. He couldn't!)

Oooh I hope DD will cheer up on one of them! Pepti unfortunately she reacted to - she's extremely allergic so even extensively hydrolysed isn't an option.

Neocate is supposedly the best for super sensitivity. DS was ok ish on it and has CMPA and soy allergies.

Neocate. DS is cmpi and was out straight on that. Revolting though. Accidentally tasted it once. Bleugh...

How did you get him to drink it? Did he take to it easily?

Neocate, only thing DS2 had for nearly 2 years!! He just got used to the taste really and loved it by the end...... Foul smelling nappies though, weaning ones were a pleasant change!

He was still a bit unsettled but his symptoms were much improved. I went back to breastfeeding in the end as I couldn't get him to take enough.

Hmmm I'm worried about that because DD hardly eats now (ebf) and has dropped 91st to 35th centile Confused

(Well ebf apart from abortive attempts at introducing formula!)

Neocate here. We started by mixing it with aptamil in ever-increasing proportions so he got used to it, he guzzles it now Smile

I think I'll gradually introduce it mixed with BM. Has anyone had experience introducing it after breastfeeding? And did you feel DC were better on it than with BM? I'm worried we won't see an improvement and I'll have stopped breastfeeding for nothing!

I discovered my DD had cmpi aged 5mo when I tried to give her a bottle of formula. She had been ebf up to this point. I continues to ebf until 10mo and gave up dairy myself. At 10mo I stopped bf and DD began on neonate. Yes it does taste a bit manky but DD loved it and I never noticed a bad smell from it. She would guzzle down her 3 sippy cups of it. At 12mo she changed to Neocate active. At age 2.5 I got her retested and she showed no sensitivity to milk&egg and is happily eating all dairy and egg products now and is looking forward to her first real Easter egg!

I must add that when I began DD on Neocate at 10mo I just gave it to her straight, i.e. I never mixed it with bm. She really took to it no problem. She had been eating solids since 5mo so she was well used to lots of different foods by 10mo. Neocate is expensive (had to pay for it in Ireland but got it on prescription so our monthly prescription charges are capped).

DS has been on both and wasn't bothered by either. Neocate smells better though, Nutramigen smells like potato starch! We mixed old formula and new for a week or so both times and he took it fine! I hope it helps your DD.

Going ok so far - she hasn't objected to a scoop mixed with BM (and she did with the others) - fingers crossed!
