Infant feeding

Shivering and shaking and freezing and one massive boob

It's never happened before. I've bf'd 4 dcs. Ds3 is 18mos old.

I had a sore breast all afternoon. He nursed as usual, not a lot but in the day he doesn't anymore.

Got all the dcs to bed and settled to nurse ds3 to sleep as usual hoping he would drain my breast. He didn't even though he had a good feed.

I woke up shivering, uncontrollably shaking and freezing. Is this mastitis? Oddly though I have just started my period and felt need to remove tampon. Slowly feeling much better with two jumpers on and my one enormous boob.

Dh is of course away this weekend. Typical.

What to do?

Sounds like mastitis. Can you express?

Sounds like mastitis. I got rid of it by alternating paracetemol and ibruprofen, each on their own 4 hr cycle - so 2 hours between each, on the advice of my midwife. If you only want to take one take the ibroprufen.

If this doesn't improve things then OOH for antibs.

Hope you feel better soon.

As others have said: mastitis. Get your temp down and call 111 tomorrow to be seen by a dr.

Sounds like mastitis. Paracetamol for your temperature, keep the milk moving so feed from that side and try massage/hand express some. If you can find a lump try to massage gently behind it, also apply heat or try a hot shower. Doctor tomorrow if you don't feel better. Hope you managed to clear it, good luck.

Mastitis. Try constant feeding (as much as possible with an 18 month old) dangling your boob into his mouth! Express by hand what you can often. Take as much pain medication as is allowed.

If still terrible and shaky in the morning, get an emergency appt with GP

Mastitis. Poor old you, it's grim. ABs will sort.

It does sound like mastitis. It typically comes on very quickly - your boob starts off feeling a little bit sore & within hours you feel like you have full blown flu.

The advice above is all good. If it doesn't start to improve very quickly you will need antibiotics. Don't leave it or you could end up with an abscess.

Hope you feel better soon.

Please check your temperature and if it's high, take off all the extra clothing!!
You're probably shaking due to a high temperature.
See if you can get hold of an out of hours GP yes, I know that's almost laughable for some antibiotics ASAP
