Infant feeding

Is this colic?

Our DS is 5 days old. He sleeps, feeds and has a bit of a look around in the daytime fine but can't settle at night.
Starts crying around 10pm-6am on/off. Tried swaddling, infacol and generally comforting, winding etc.
I'm being careful not to over feed him my fore milk by having feeds too frequent and fast.
He sounds rumbly and gassy.
He's now fallen asleep on his side on me which might last for a few minutes but I can't put him down as he'll wake and cry.
Been back from the hospital 3 nights now and my 4 year old DD is not sleeping from the noise and I haven't slept since Tuesday.
DH is doing a lot in the house and with DD during the day so is sleeping downstairs.
What can I do?
I don't really want to co sleep as DG smokes.

Congrats on your new ds Smile

Well, colic just means periods of crying with no apparent cause, so yes it could be colic.

With regards to the feeding pattern, what do you mean about not letting him feed too frequently/fast? The foremilk/hindmilk thing is a bit of a myth (see the Kellymom explanation), and IMO you don't need to worry about trying to "manage" this when feeding.

At the moment he's feeding every 2 hours at least. Any more frequent than that and he will only stay on the breast for a few minutes if that.
Pretty sure it's gas-can hear gurgles in his tummy when he's screaming and it's a pain cry.
