Ok, this may seem like a really stupid question, so my apologies!
I have to leave my 3 week old DD tomorrow to go to the dentist and some work done so am leaving her with my DM, I was going to express some milk tonight incase she needs a feed while I'm gone.
My question is, if I express tonight how will that effect my feeds tonight, will she get enough, will i produce enough to feed her later or essentially taking a feed away?

Hmm I know that your body will produce what you need as in if the amount of milk taken increases then you will start to produce more but I think that is a gradual thing tbh. For future though, I was told by my breast feeding advisor that if you express your milk and then refrigerate it it will last for up to 24hrs or freeze will last 3 days. Not much help to you now but maybe good to know. I think the only thing you can do is express in the morning after you have given a feed.

In my experience the baby only notices if they're hungry for a big feed, immediately after you express. This has only happened once.

I'm sure someone will come along and correct the numbers above but ebm lasts about 5 days in the fridge and months in the freezer, off the top of my head.

Yeh I would go with anankifo, I'm not going off experience just trying to remember what I've been told. Sounds better to me Smile

I answered your other thread, but in case you missed it, you make breast milk fresh, at source, on demand.

You may feel emptier, but expressing one extra feed shouldn't impact on him at all.

And Ana above is correct, in my understanding. EBM lasts days in the fridge if your pump hygiene is good.
