Infant feeding

Increasing my supply after illness

I am currently EBFeeding my 5 month old DS over the weekend I had an awful bout of what I'm guessing was gastric flu. So from Saturday afternoon to this morning I wasn't able to eat anything.

I continued to feed my DS on demand throughout this and I have started to eat again today, bananas, toast etc. I am really worried about my milk supply being affected as my boobs feel really 'empty' I am offering DS the breast whenever he seems to want it.

Is there anything else I can do to get my supply up again? Please tell me it's possible to do this? I breast fed my DD till 16months and really want to do the same for DS.

Thank you

I've had drops in supply due to illness but my supply has always come back fairly quickly by feeding on demand. Keep well hydrated and rest and much as possible

Don't panic. Remember that if you have kept feeding, you'll be the one to have suffered, not DS, because all the goodness will have gone to the milk!

If you can, just keep feeding often, but I honestly don't think what you have described will have done any harm at all!

Thanks for the replies everybody. I am drinking lots and trying to rest as much as possible. It's reassuring to hear from others.

Just need to stop myself from constantly prodding my boobs thinking 'are they getting fuller yet?' Smile
