Infant feeding

just given DS his last ever breastfeed

So, I've just given DS his last bfeed. He's 18mo and 19 days (but who's counting...) and I was ready to give up, and I've been cutting back gradually for the past few months. I've only given him about 3/4 feeds in the last fortnight. So I guess this last feed was symbolic more than anything else as it feels like months since I've been bfeeding 'properly' almost.

Still. The end of an era I guess :-(

Are you very sure of that? Plenty of colds around this time of year!

Well done, OP. You've done amazingly well and I can imagine you must feel sad about it.

My DS is 10 mo. I go back to work soon so will be cutting back but not stopping just yet. Part of me looks forward to stopping, part of me never wants to say goodbye to it.

I think we might stop soon (16 months and 13 days, but who's counting…) and I well up with sadness at the thought. So maybe we won't. But I am a bit tired of it all, and I don't think she's very bothered any more. I am pregnant and maybe my supply has dropped a bit.

Oh god I cannot face the hormones if I stop though.

Well done OP. You've done a lovely thing.

Well done. You've done amazing!
We are only 7 months in and I already feel like I will be really sad when we stop.

Well done! I've started weaning 6mo DD and feel mixed emotions about it. I'm looking forward to burning my nursing bras and having a normal appetite, but when I think about the very last breast feed I'll give her I get very emotional. I'll miss the special cuddles and the closeness, and be sad that she won't really 'need' me, iykwim?

Well done for feeding for so long, I definitely couldn't do it

Well done, that is amazing. You've done so well. You should feel really proud of yourself.

I'm already feeling sad about stopping bf'ing and we won't be stopping for another 6 months. I just think it's so special.

Sammie101 - I felt the same, I used to think, Will he still love me when I give up??

In fact, because I gave up really slowly, I got used to it gradually and so am not really feeling it as a loss, thankfully. Well not yet - will see what happens to my hormones over the next few days... One thing is for sure, I'll have to cut the cake out now... Shock

Its so strange - in the first days/weeks/months, bfing felt SO MUCH part of what it meant to be a mother, and of course it just took up so much time. Now, I can see that it's just one of the many things I'll do for DS, not THE thing I'll do for him, whereas there were times when it felt all consuming.

Thanks for all your lovely comments, am not sure why I posted really. Maybe because I'm the only one of my friends who bfed this long and I felt I need to mark the moment somehow!

unaltronome, my DD was born just a couple of days after yours and we're still bfing too! I was actually planning on continuing for a while, but have been having probs with it lately so second thoughts.
What you stay about how you feel about it really chimes with me!

I just started a thread about stopping.
We made it to 29 months, but for health reasons we have called it a day.
