Day 2 & baby seems very hungry; wants to feed all the time and fusses a lot - is there anything I can do until milk comes in?

I'm no expert but I wanted to say that this may well be normal. Is your baby content after feeds (briefly! )? Are there plenty of wet and dirty nappies (one dirty per day of life)? //kellymom.com/bf/normal/newborn-nursing/

Has someone checked the baby's position and attachment/latch?

If so then the baby is probably just encouraging your supply and eating little and often which they need to do because a newborn's stomach is about the size of its fist.

Just keep letting your Lo feed as much as they want. Their tummies are so tiny, I really doubt Lo is hungry. Its a new thing that you both have to get used to. So just relax, put your feet up and make sure you have plenty of snacks and drinks and Mn obviously

Are you still in hospital or under the care of a mw? It might be worthwhile asking them to check for tongue tie. Not that it sounds like there may be a problem but its always worth ruling things out

Congrats, just to add my lo fed all day and night on day 2 and 3, midwife said all very normal, tough at the time but it will get easier

Keep checking the latch. Have you looked at the kellymom site or the Dr Jack Newman site? Do you have any bf books? The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is very good. If you need RL support, ask your midwife to observe a feed, call a bf helpline and/or go to a local bf cafe.

Lansinoh can help. I also found hydrogel pads (store them in the fridge) fantastically soothing. You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief. I used nipple shields when the pain got too overwhelming.

My DD has a tongue tie and upper lip tie so bf was incredibly painful. Has your LO been checked? A quick snip of the tie can make all the difference.

Its all sounding v normal for such early days, really good infact that baby isnt too weak and tired post birth. The boob situation should ease as the nipples toughen up, leaving a wee bit of milk to air dry on them after each feed can really help. But yep get any possible lt or tt checked.

Check your latch. It shouldn't be agony. Try airing them out. Remember the first 3 weeks are the hardest. After 6 weeks it gets easier. Come three months you'll look at those formula feeding and think "what a faff".

Oh, and breast shells enable you wear clothes but avoid chafing. I spent about 3 weeks wandering around the house with no top on!

tired have you spoken to your mw today? Do you have a number to call? They may be able to help you with the nipple situation, sounds like you need some RL help

Have a read of this on healing nipples and I'd give your mw number a call. Some people find that jelonet helps too.

Have a look at this video too. Does your feeding look anything like this?

Think you might need your Lo checking for tongue tie. Have you got the number if a local BFC you could ring? If not, see if there is a lll group near to you.
