Infant feeding

Baby keeps pulling off the breast

My dd is 4 months and when I feed her she is always wriggling around and pulling off the breast. She goes back on again and pulls off, so I switch her to the other side and she does the same. She also keeps pinch and pulling my boobs with her hands. Is this normal for this age?

Normal is hard to estimate really.

However, my little one does the same. She smacks my boob, wriggles around ages at the start of a feed and only recently settles down after a few minutes. It obviously effects her latch and therefore she doesn't always get enough which is probably partially why we had to start supplementing. She loves feeding from the breast but she just gets impatient. Perhaps this is what your little one is doing?

Perhaps try pumping for about a minute beforehand if you have a pump, or even hand expressing a tiny bit so the flow is already started and that way she doesn't have to wait for the milk to make it's way out. Also maybe try different positions as these may be more comfortable for her. Also make sure her body is tucked in well and pressed against yours and is straight with only the head tilted back.

Some babies are more fussy at the breast than others though, I've heard.
