Infant feeding

I have a sickness bug, do I just BF through it?

I felt ill yesterday evening and ended up with several sickness/diarrhoea bouts during the night. So far I have fed 16wo DS3 as normal....is it ok to do this or should I supplement with formula if I start feeling really drained?

Also, if DS3 gets the bug (assuming it's a bug and not something I've eaten) should I carry on BF him through that too?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, keep bfing, it will protect him against it :) and if he gets it, then breast milk is the best thing for it.
Make sure you keep hydrated, lucozade sport (the flat stuff) is good for keeping your energy levels up when you can't eat.

Poor you, bfing is grim when you're ill.

Hi there! Sorry that you're ill :-( Me too! DH, DS and now I have it. Aching all over, headache, stomach cramps etc. It's horrendous. Praying DD doesn't get it as she's five weeks.

Kellymom says feed through it. In fact the site says feed through everything except HIV!

Hope your DS3 doesn't get it.

I understand your pain. I was in the same boat a few days ago. BF though it. Breastmilk has all the antibodies that will protect them if they get sick. If you can ask for some help. My mum came for a day and my inlaws to look after my child while I tried to get some rest. I expressed so I could have a good sleep. Makes all the difference

I needed in laws all day too as have a toddler as well. I rarely ask them to help but I really needed it. Accept help if it's there.

Thank you...continuing to breast feed through it and starting to feel a bit better. DH working from home thankfully so he is doing preschool and school runs. And baby DS surpassed himself by going down for a 2 hour nap this morning (usually only does 45 mins!) so I got a good rest.

Just keeping fingers crossed no one else gets it now!
