DS is on SMA Gold (has been since week 1 due to bf probs. boob never worked out so is exclusively ff).

He suffers from silent reflux & i'm thinking about changing formula to see it it helps, but I'm a bit apprehensive as I don't want to change willy nilly & make things worse!

So I'm interested to know if anyone has had positive results after a change of formula. What did you switch from/to?

We've tried a few different formulas, and they don't seem to make any difference. Infant gaviscon certainly does though. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

Dd is mostly bf but we use aptamil comfort when I leave her a bottle. She has silent reflux and a suspected cows milk protein intolerance. The comfort milk is Thicker so stays down better, has reduced lactose and also the cows milk protein is partially hydrolysed so it's easier to digest. Seems to work for her, all other formulas make her reflux a lot worse and make her windy and unsettled. Also speak to your gp about gaviscon/ranitidine, we found gaviscon no help as she's bf and it's a pita trying to get it down her, but the ranitidine has helped massively and she's rarely uncomfortable with the reflux now.

We did have infant gaviscon but I didn't feel it made any difference...maybe we didn't use it often enough?? I put it in every other feed, plus we only had enough sachets to last about a week. How soon should I notice a difference? May have to go back to doc to discuss - especially as he's now heavier & might need more in his feed maybe..

Gaviscon should make a difference within a couple of days. It works by thickening the feed so it's less likely to come back up. Ranitidine works by reducing the stomach acid production, so what comes back up doesn't burn the throat. Dd was quite literally a different baby within a couple of days, she used to be gagging and screaming for up to an hour after every feed, and that was even in a swing/car seat. Now she settles straight away and can even lie flat for short periods on her playmat.

We use Cow & Gate reflux and it's made a massive difference.

Gaviscon didn't work for us and we have an appointment with the hospital next month and decided to try it while we waited for the appointment. We have a much happier baby.
