DS is 19 weeks and has always been a great breast feeder and slept 7-5 from about 10 weeks. He was on 50th percentile when he was born but has grown rapidly and is now on 98th soweight gain has never been a prob! However the last week or so he's taken to waking every 3 hours in the night the only thing that will settle him is milk. Then the last few days he been refusing to feed. He's clearly hungry and has gone longer than he usually would between feeds but when I put him to the boob he gets really upset. It's so strange, this morning I tried to feed him in bed lying down which I do every morning but he was having none of it but fed when I sat up, I am currently on my mums bed feeding him because he would not feed sitting in the chair! Its not as if hes upset when im trying to feed him so thats why hes getting upset because im trying to feed him and as soon as i lift him away from the nipple hes fine! so confusing! Any one else had anything like this?

Fraggke, I'd give one of the bfing helplines a call. If you haven't got the numbers just google national Breastfeeding helpline Smile

I found this a tricky age for bf because they have suddenly become interested in what's going on around them. Don't want to miss anything by having face buried in boob! Mine does it. Then makes up for it at night when it's dark & boring. Could be that?

My Ds has been the same for a few weeks! He is 21 weeks now and some days are better than others. I find that in the morning, he has decided he would rather look around our bedroom than feed even though he is clearly hungry! I just leave him to it, and then he feeds when hes ready.

I have started weaning him this week as he has been showing all the signs of readiness and was feeding every 2 hours day and night.

Perhaps your LO is going through a growth spurt. The website here says they have a mental leap around 19 weeks. Worth a look?

Sorry bit of a ramble there!

Thank you all for your replies! Think he is just more interested in playing because the problem seems to be day time only, he fed fine the 4 times he was up last night! Haha going to speak to hv this week and see what they say!
