Infant feeding

8 mo only put on 2oz last month

Dd is 8 mo tomorrow. Just been to baby clinic & she weighs 15lb2. She was last weighed a month ago & was 15lb. She's a month corrected so if you go by her corrected age she's just under the 25th c when a month ago ahe was over it.

She's ebf - feeds every couple of hours during the day & at least 3 feeds during the night. She's not crawling, but gets around by rolling.

HV says to increase her milk feeds (she's doing BLW too as she won't be spoonfed).

Anyone else been in this position & can reassure me?

TIA!

All sorts of things can affect weight gain over a month - has she been ill or suddenly started to crawl for example? As long as she's producing the usual amount of wet/dirty nappies and is happy, I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. My DD fell off the curve completely at 6 months and I agonised about it! Turned out she was just meant to be that way and never returned to her higher chart position. Just keep feeding your DD as you have been and wait to see what next month's weight is. There can be too much pressure for your baby to "follow the chart" but babies often don't and it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply cathanSmile

She did have a cold a couple of weeks ago - I'd stupidly forgotten about that! I just got worried - she's my 1st. As she's BLW I just worry she's not getting enough food so was going to try maybe higher fat foods & see if that makes a difference!

Anyway, thanks again, you've been very helpful Smile

My ds would have a growth spurt in weight, and then wouldn't put any weight on for a couple of months at a time while he got longer, then he'd stop getting longer and go back to putting weight on again instead. This was his growth pattern until he was about 3 I think. Some kids just don't follow the curve nicely.

Thanks banjo - dd is a v long baby & they didn't measure her at the clinic so I don't know if that might be the reason she hasn't put on weight

If you hadn't had her weighed, would you be worried at all?

I didn't have DD weighed at all once she was a few months old. I could see she was thriving.

Prob not Midori, but she had a few stomach issues (paed said if could have been secondary lactose intolerance - she's fine now) & said to just keep an eye on her weight.

Sorry to drip feed, I hadn't mentioned it before as didn't think it relevant.
