Infant feeding

What are the golden rules for the expressing and storing of breastmilk?

My 6mo has so far been exclusively breast-fed but will be having her first taste of baby rice on Monday so I would like to express some breast milk to mix with it.

I expressed quite frequently with my older dd but I have lost my pump instructions. Obviously I know that I have to sterilise all of the breast pump parts but is there anything else I need to remember?

How long can I keep breast milk stored in the fridge?

Thanks.

Although some will state longer than what i suggest i suggest the following

6 hrs room temp
max 72 hrs in the fridge never in the door and always on the shelf
6 mths freezer

if you think about it you wouldnt leave your own milk in the fridge for longer let alone breastmilk.

If your adding two expsressed milks together you need to leave 30mins inbetween

My midwife said rule of 5. 5hrs left out at room temp, 5days in the fridge or 5mths in the freezer.
