Infant feeding

persuading a 5 week old to take a bottle again.

I have very painful nipples from ebf, consequently from the early days my 5 week old has had a bottle for the odd feed, she did this with no problems. Modela teats.

Now she won't take it at all. Dh does all bottle feeds. We've tried me not being in the house but nothing seems to work to get her to take it.

How do we persuade her?
Please help

My DD would never take a bottle so my DH gave her expressed breastmilk from a "sippy-cup" (the kind with a lid). It was a bit fiddly, but better than a crying, inconsolable baby! And she would never take it from me - if I was around, it was breast or nothing. If you do try this, he should give baby sips rather than expect her to suck as the milk will come too quickly. Good luck!

Are your nipples sore now beige? Is there a particular reason you want her to take a bottle?

Have you had a look on the kellymom website? how to bottle feed the bf baby and alternative feeding methods are both good. If you search the Mn archive there will be lots of threads on bottle refusal too.

Both of mine were bottle refusers and with dc1 I sort of had this idea that you had to express and offer a bottle if you bf. once I gave up on that idea I was actually much happier, and got more sleep Smile
