kettle for making formula feeds- can you use one where you can set the temp at 70°C?

Hi, I've seen a kettle where you can set the temp to 70°c and was wondering if this would be suitable for making formula feeds? Does the water need to go to 100°c first to sterilise it? But then if 70°c is ok to kill bugs in the formula is this ok for the water too? If anyone knows I'd be very grateful as im making bottles up for twins and it takes forever!

Hi, I'm pretty sure the water has to get to 100 for it to be sterile. But I am guessing it would be ok to then keep it at 70 as I have a bottle warmer with a keep warm option so that is kind of the same?! lol
Although the water has to be at room temperature when mixed with the formula and given to baby/babies :)

on the side of the Cow and gate pack it says do not mix powder with scolding hot water can cause hot spots, sorry I meant given to the baby at room temperature.

Water at 70 would be perfect for making bottles - it's not about sterilising the water but sterilising the milk powder and this is done successfully at 70 degrees.

Thanks all. Does anyone else use a kettle like this for making formula? I'm still undecided as it's an expensive kettle, but making bottles is such a pain!

Although it goes against all the packet instructions and I accept I'm likely to get shot down for this. I boil a kettle with fresh water, fill all the bottles I need and leave to cool until needed. When needed I heat in microwave, shake very hard, add powder and shake hard again to get rid of heat spots and feed. All friends that have bottle feed have ended up with a process similar to this as the time needed to do each one fresh is to long when you've a screaming hungry baby.

There are two things to consider. 1 is the guideline to give cooled boiled water under 6 months and the second is the need to use water at at least 70 degrees to make formula. I bought a similar kettle and from 6 months, boiled it to 80 degrees and made formula with that. It was so much more convenient than the waiting 30 minutes thing. I could imagine with twins the benefit would be more so. But if they are younger than 6 months, then you would be going against guidelines to use cooled boiled water.
Wintersdawn, it is safer to make up bottles as per guidelines, quickly cool them, refrigerate and then re-heat as required, and it is just as convenient as your method. I am not shooting you down. Just trying to help.
