10 day old very windy

My 10 day old is being fed formula and given the breast and pump, due to low weight gain. I pump regularly/let her latch onto the breast so my milk supply stays up and the formula is to top up her supply.

Anyway she is very windy. It takes ages for her to bring her burps up and flatulence down and it often takes her hours to do a poo. You can see she is straining to poo sometimes, but isn't able to do it. She also gets hiccoughs very regularly at least every other feed, sometimes every feed. It really interrupts her sleep and makes her very whingy. I hate seeing her like this.

Is it worth mentioning to the health visitor/midwife or to give her something (she's having infacol at the moment, otherwise it's 10% worse). Is there anything else I can do and is this normal?

First time Mum here.

Yes, do mention it to your midwife and/or HV....a lot of what you say could be 100 per cent normal (the hiccups, for instance) and other stuff (straining) may not be what you think it is. 10 day old babies don't really have to strain, and it may be just that she is reacting to the new and strange sesnsations. The burping 'delay' could be normal too. Hope the midwife/HV helps you and your baby.

Hope too the feeding gets sorted - formula, breast and pump is the hardest and clunkiest way to feed, so it'll be nice when things get easier smile

If you can get her to latch on when she has hiccups, feeding can get rid of them (just as we might drink a glass of water).

Tummy massage can help with passing wind, get some olive oil on your fingers and massage her tummy in a clockwise direction, then cycle her legs.
