Baby gaviscon and breastfeeding - how do I get her to take it?

We think DD2 has reflux and GP has agreed we try gaviscon.
Only, it's really hard to get her to take it.
GP said make it with water and give with a syringe but its 15ml and is quite a lot as DD is choking and gasping like she is drowning. She won't take it in a bottle.
Last night we tried mixing it with just 5ml of water (the first stage of the mixing instructions) and that went in ok with a syringe but then I think it made everything in her tummy too thick as she really struggled to poo and it was a bit toothpastey instead of watery breastfed poo.
Does anyone have any experience with gaviscon and breastfeeding?

I had exactly the same problem with my DD. It was totally impossible to get her to take gaviscon. I asked for ranitidine instead, it is infinitely more compatible with breastfeeding in my experience. The dose was less than 0.5ml and was easy to give with a tiny 1ml syringe in the corner of her mouth. Hope that helps!

Thankyou both. Did rantidine work for you Umanayana?
I talked about the Gaviscon solution with the GP but it is not licensed for under twos and she said our pharmacist would not dispense it even if she prescribed it.

I used to put the Gaviscon directly into DS1s cheek, much harder for them to spit out that way.

We had exactly same issues. We mixed it with 10ml in the end and used a calpol syringe to give it. Now shes a bit older she can take 15ml with a feed.

We also found that only 5ml ended in constipation.

The ranitidine worked really well for my daughter op. It was the only option anyway because gaviscon really was impossible! We used the ranitidine til she learnt to sit up and then the reflux went.
