I froze a bottle of milk straight away and defrosted it ova nite in fridge. Tastes a bit off to me today tho was it just because it had been frozen and I didn't warm it up to taste it as its for dp to give while I work? Tastes less creamy

Used to be a bfc a few years ago and some mums said that their frozen milk did smell a bit off. Struggling to remember why and how to avoid this happening. You could google it and look on one of the bf sites.

yes, apparently it does taste different.
I can't remember why now either!

it should be fine once it's fully defrosted - creaminess wise.
the cream is broken down a bit by the ice crystals.

here
it's a breakdown of lipase.

Yes, it can and mine used to. From my poor memory it has to do with fatty acids and is fine to use.

Scalding the milk (bringing it briefly to boiling point) is meant to prevent it. Kellymom.com should have more detail.

Mine tastes disgusting after freezing. Unfortunately I have only just discovered this after stockpiling loads ready for going back to work Sad
DD will take a bottle of fresh EBM no problem but when I tried her with some that had been frozen she was hysterical and when I smelled and tasted it myself I could understand why, I'm gutted I'm going to have to throw it all away!

I just about to bin 250oz of soapy frozen milk! Very frustrating! But explains why my LO will not take a bottle!

My DD is EBF and will take a bottle of fresh BM but if its been frozen she point blank refuses no matter how many times we try.

I figured this out after I had a huge store of BM in the freezer Confused

Same here Hmm DDs drank what little I expressed, but would not drink from frozen. Not that I blamed them, as it did smell a bit off.

mc baby - don't bin it yet, you may be able to donate to a hospital milk bank for sick /prem babies. (they are tube fed so can't taste it!)

I have soapy frozen milk but DD will drink it sometimes, sometimes not...

Thanks all! Thats very interesting as it only seems to be with freezing we've had the problem as usually if I need to be away from ds I express for a day or two before so no need to freeze and we've had no problems. I only froze this bottle as I had a very engorged breast one morning and expressed 4oz in one go. I warmed it up as I was wondering if it would bother him as others had said their lo's stil drank it but it tasted so vile and vomity I couldn't give it to him:-( also worried it would put him off the bottle all together. I'd be gutted if I had a freezer full of expressed bm:-(
