Infant feeding

I have a very unhappy nipple.

So 15mo DD gets up at 5am and will co sleep (instead of screaming of running round the room) if I attach her and let her suckle for two bloody hours. Irritating but we get a bit more sleep till about 7am.

It obviously went wrong last night as there's a blood blister on the end of my nipple. It really hurts, particularly when feeding. Is there anything I can do to help it heal? Should I encourage her to use the other side?

I feel very sorry for myself. Ouch.

Thank you! It did get lost in tumbleweed. I just wish I knew what to do to make it hurt less! Should I still feed from that side? It's her favourite. My poor nipple has gone black.

Yowzer, that sounds sore! In addition to what Harriet said have you ever tried multimam compresses? They helped me in the early days and are meant to speed up the healing process - you can get them in Boots or on Amazon. Also found Kamillosan to be a life saver.

Thank you all so much for answering. I have stopped offering h that side as much and bought some nipple shields and lanisoh (for the first time ever, never had year problems before).

I wore one of the nipple shields as anything touching it or brushing it was agony. Have just noticed bloody milk seeping through my jumper though. It's beyond grim. It hurts so much. Is there a point at which I should seek medical advice or will it just get better?

That was a random 'h'. I'm not offering DH any milk. Ick.
