Infant feeding

11month old refusing to feed :(

I bf DC1 to 15months, and intended to do the same with DC2 (now 11 months), however it would appear he has different ideas!

Since the end of last year, DC2 has happily been down to 2 bf per day - first thing, and last thing.

In anticipation of returning to work, and potentially having to miss a feed due to work commitments, I moved the bedtime feed forward half and hour to separate the feed, from going to sleep. I also skipped a morning feed once or twice just to 'test' out how it would go. There were no problems with this (apart from a small amount of crying at bedtime, for 4 or 5 days). Other than these changes, everything else continues as normal.

About 2 weeks ago, DC started to refuse his pre bedtime feed. He wriggles and kicks and refuses to go anywhere near the breast. To start with it was just occasionally, but now he refuses the feed every night.

I could probably live with no pre bedtime feed, but he has now started refusing his morning feed. He is thirsty (as will take water / juice), but just won't go on the breast.

The advice I seem to have read online about nursing strikes says to offer the breast at every possible opportunity, but I'm back at work so this isn't an option for me.

Any thoughts / advice? Any idea how long my milk supply is likely to last without DC2 feeding? I feel a bit sad at the thought of stopping :(

Thankfully, after missing 3 consecutive feeds and 24 hours after his last feed, DS fed this morning. Phew!

I don't think this is the end of the problem though, so would still appreciate any advice.

Thanks

48 hours since his last feed, not 24. Oooops!
