Baby dropping centiles, should I be worried?

Hi,

I am really hoping someone can give me some advice or reassurance.

My twin girls will be 21 weeks old tomorrow. Born at 34 weeks at 5lb7 & 5lb4. They have been on the 50th & 25th centiles since birth. I took them to be weighed yesterday and they are now 13lb1 & 14lb. Twin 2 has dropped from 50th to 25th centile and twin 1 has dropped from 25th to 9th centile. HV didn't really have any words of wisdom. They are sleeping through the night now and have gone from 6 feeds a day to 5 feeds a day, so I am presuming this may be why they have dropped a centile? Does anyone have any similar experience? I am not sure if I should phone their pediatrician or not. They have reviews every 8 weeks and on the last review they hadn't dropped a centile and he was happy with their weights.

They have four 6oz bottles and one 8oz bottle, they are now formula fed.

Thanks in advance :)

Usual guidance is that a drop of up to 2 centile spaces is within normal; even more than that is usually just fine, but it's a good trigger to investigate and check all is well. However, twins born pre-term may need more individualised assessment - even though they have just dropped through one centile space and don't seem to have any other health issue, and the HV doesn't seem to be concerned. Can you ask the HV if she thinks this is something to take further? Or whether they need an extra feed, or an extra oz or two ?

Personally, I'd think these were steps to take before seeing the paed, if you have confidence in the HV - this is practical, too, 'cos if the paed says 'bring them in for me to have a look at' I'm assuming that's a hassle you'd prefer to avoid :)
