hi my baby is 8.5 wks old she has 5-6 ozs every 3 hrs or less and usually starts looking for more after 2 hours. she will go longer during night usually going down around 11 waking once at 3ish and then up by 6ish. not sure if i should try hungry baby milk?
i think she is a suckly baby but there is no holding her out in between feeds. is this normal? i thought they should be on 5 bottles a day by this age.?

My midwife advised to avoid hungry baby milk (that's the official NHS guidance too) as it is not very digestible.

It depends really. Everyone's different -- how does her weight look plotted on that chart in the red book? Have you tried dummies in case some of it is her sucking for comfort? Other than that perhaps have the GP check her out if you are worried, but maybe she is just hungry/big.

Personally (after two formula fed dc) I don't think you can overfeed unless you are literally forcing it down - which obviously you're not.

Both of mine have fed way more than the guidelines. Every 2 hours, 8oz bottles etc. I used a dummy sometimes but often they just wanted a bottle so that's what I've done. Neither are overweight - one is a tall and skinny 9 year old.

Stay off the hungry milk. It's just harder to digest and made both of mine very upset and colicy.

Both mine have slept through from a very early age and I am convinced that feeding quite a lot and on demand has a lot to do with it as generally they took most of their feeds during the daytime.

Just go with the flow.

A 12lb baby would normally have about 30oz of formula a day - I would try offering a dummy if she is sucky, but if she is hungry then feed her.

Just feed her on demand and stop worrying Smile
