When to stop sterilizing bottles?

Hi,

I am spending my dd's first Christmas with the in-laws and they have been giving lots of advice on looking after a 2 month old. They are telling me that I don't need to sterilize her bottles any more and now DP thinks that I am being silly for wanting to continue sterilizing.

How long have others continued sterilizing?

Thanks

All the advice I have been given by midwives, health visitors etc. has been the same, to sterilise bottles up until 12months. I don't know why on earth someone would think it was only 2! Confused

are you using formula or breastmilk?

if formula, then yes you should sterilise until 12 months

breastmilk - no need to sterilise

At my nursery we sterilise all bottles, spoons and cup lids till they are 12 months but it is a nursery so we have to be very good at those kinds if things Smile

I thought you sterilise as long as you use formula. No need to sterilise anything not used with formula (like spoons, dummies or if using normal cows milk).

Yes 6 months is when I stopped but I believe it's as soon as they start eating food, it's a great feeling to pack that beast away lol xxx

I stopped once they started crawling. Didn't see the point when they were on the floor teething on my slipper or worse!
That said, bottles went in the dishwasher after being scrubbed with bottle brush.
